Oversized Comforter Sizes: Super King, Palatial King & Everything Bigger Than King
You buy a King comforter for your King bed, and it still comes up short. One person ends up uncovered by morning, the sides barely reach the mattress edge, and a tall or pillow-top bed swallows whatever drop was left. The fix is not a bigger bed. It is the right one of the oversized comforter sizes, cut to actually drape a large bed the way it should.

Why a standard comforter comes up short
A comforter has to cover the mattress and then hang down on both sides and the foot. The taller or wider your setup, the more fabric that drop eats up. Add a thick mattress, a topper, or an adjustable base and a normal King comforter suddenly has nothing left to give. Two sleepers who each pull their own way make it worse. This is why so many big beds look half-dressed, and why a proper oversized comforter is worth seeking out rather than sizing up a regular one and hoping.
Oversized comforter sizes, measured
Here is the full range, from standard through to the largest. Measure your mattress width and height, then choose a size that adds enough on each side for the drop you want:
| Size | Dimensions | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Full / Queen | 88 x 90 in | Standard Full and Queen beds |
| King | 90 x 104 in | Standard King |
| Cal King | 96 x 104 in | California King |
| Ov / Palatial King | 98 x 116 in | Tall or thick King mattresses |
| Super King | 116 x 108 in | Extra-wide beds, generous drop |
| Super King Plus | 120 x 120 in | Oversized square coverage |
| SKP Plus | 120 x 128 in | The largest, maximum drape |
There is also an Oversized Queen option that sits between the Queen and King footprints, handy for a deep Queen mattress that a Full/Queen comforter cannot quite cover. Very few brands cut comforters past a standard King, so these larger sizes are the real reason to shop a specialist.

Which oversized size do you need?
Two numbers decide it: how wide your mattress is, and how much drop you want to see:
- Standard King, but tall or pillow-top. Step up to Palatial King at 98 x 116 for a proper drop the standard King loses to mattress height.
- Extra-wide or pushed-together beds. A Super King comforter at 116 x 108 covers width most comforters never reach.
- You want a dramatic, floor-skimming drape. Super King Plus (120 x 120) or SKP Plus (120 x 128) give the fullest coverage we make.
- Not sure between two. Size up. Extra drop always looks intentional, while a comforter that rides up never does.
Microfiber, 600 or 1000 thread count?
Every size comes in three qualities, all with a light, all-season 250 GSM fill. Microfiber is the softest on price and still cozy, starting around $85. The 600 thread count Egyptian cotton comforter shell is crisper and more breathable, from about $105. The 1000 thread count is the most luxe and durable, from about $115. In the biggest sizes the range runs higher, for example a Super King is roughly $125 in microfiber and $155 in 1000 thread count. Larger comforters need room to move in the wash. If your machine is standard-sized, the biggest sizes are happier at a laundromat's large drum than crammed into a home washer. Wash cold or warm on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low with a couple of dryer balls to keep the fill even, and never leave it damp. Treat it well and the Egyptian cotton shell only softens over the years while the fill stays lofty and fluffy.
Pairing it with the rest of the bed
An oversized comforter changes how the rest of the bed reads, so plan around it. Fitted and flat sheets should match your mattress size as usual, since the comforter sits on top and does not need to tuck. If you like to change the look often, layer a duvet cover over a plain insert instead, though remember a true oversized comforter is already finished and needs no cover at all. Keep pillow shams and a runner in proportion too: on a Super King or larger bed, a pair of standard shams can look lost, so Euro shams or an extra row of pillows fill the width better. The goal is balance, a big comforter wants big accents around it.
Common questions
What is bigger than a King comforter?
In order: Palatial King (98 x 116), Super King (116 x 108), Super King Plus (120 x 120), and SKP Plus (120 x 128). These oversized comforter sizes all give more drop than a standard King.
Why is my King comforter too small?
Usually because the mattress is tall, pillow-top, or on an adjustable base, so the extra height eats into the side drop. A Palatial King comforter or larger fixes it.
What size comforter for a Super King bed?
A Super King comforter at 116 x 108 inches, or step up to Super King Plus if you want a fuller, floor-skimming drape.
Does the comforter come with pillowcases?
No, it is a single-piece comforter with an Egyptian cotton shell and 250 GSM fill. Pair it with a matching sheet set or duvet cover separately.
